December 21, 2012 Theory - Will The World End?
Written on Jan 14, 2009 // .I know this is kinda not related to my blog since this doesn’t concern any alien or anything but this December 21, 2012 theory or prophecy has been making some sort of pandemonium. So, I thought it’s worth a look. I even ran across a site who is selling a book that will help you survive 2012. Interesting.
The theory came from different ancient sources and predictions that scholars pieced together, and with their often imaginative minds found out that every prophecy ancient or modern is pointing at December 21, 2012 to be the end of the world.
I must admit that the coincidences are great. But, I can’t even remember how many times the world ended in the past 10 years.
Two sources that stand out are the Mayan Calendar and the I Ching. I’ll talk about them and what brought about the theory and you decide.
Who Are The Mayans?
The Mayans were an advanced civilization who lived in central America during the 6th - 9th century AD. They were great mathematicians and astronomers and one of their most notable accomplishments is the creation of a calendar that is so precise, it could predict a solar eclipse thousands of years before it happens. It is even said that the calendar predicted the Spanish invasion, to the exact date, on March 5, 1519.
The Mayans were obsessed with timekeeping, they studied the movement of the stars and how it affects the weather. They closely monitored seasonal changes, especially the winter solstice, probably because of planting crops.
They also believed that the Sun is God and the Milky Way is a gateway to life. They called the Milky Way the “Sacred Tree”. Because of their observations they also learned that the Earth wobbles as it spins in its axis. This wobbling, that is completed every 26,000 years, causes the stars to gradually drift in the sky.
They also discovered that once every cycle the Ecliptic (The path of the Sun) crosses the Galactic Equator (Equator of the milky way). This will occur on December 21, 2012. Considering the Mayan belief that the Sun is God and the Milky way is the gateway to life, we assume that the Mayans might have thought that the intersection in the past is the moment of creation and the intersection that will be happening on 2012 will be some sort of an end that will give way to a new beginning.
How Does The Mayan Calendar Work?
The Mayan calendar shows the Maya’s great attention to detail and astronomical prowess. It uses 3 different dating systems. The Long Count, Tzolkin and Haab.
As of this writing the date in the Mayan calendar will look like this 12.19.15.11.2 12 IK 5 MOL
12.19.15.11.2 is the Long Count
2 IK is the Tzolkin
5 MOL is the Haab
The Long Count
The Long Count represents the days past since the Mayan era. The Long Count calendar spans approximately 5,125 years, also referred to as the “Great Cycle”.
The beginning of the cycle is believed to be on August 13, 3114 B.C
Going from right to left, the units are called:
Kin = 1 day (Numbered from 0 - 9)
Uinal = 20 Kin = 20 Days (Numbered from 0 - 17)
Tun = 18 Uinal = 360 Days = Approximately 1 year (Numbered from 0 - 19)
Katun = 20 tun = 7,200 Days = Approximately 20 years (Numbered from 0 - 19)
Baktun = 20 Katun = 144,000 Days = Approximately 394 years (Numbered from 1 - 13)
Thus, day 1 will be written as 13.0.0.0.1 day 2 will be 13.0.0.0.2. When it reaches day 20 the calendar will say 13.0.0.1.0 (The calendar can not start at 0.0.0.0.0 since the baktun is numbered from 1-13)
The calendar is set to reset on December 21, 2012, meaning it will again say 13.0.0.0.0 or it will reach the end of the great cycle.
The Mayans also had names for longer time spans.
1 Pictun = 20 Baktun = 2,880,000 Days = 7885 years
1 Calabtun = 20 Pictun = 57,600,000 Days = 158,000 years
1 Kinchiltun = 20 Calabtun = 1,152,000,000 Days = 3 million years
1 Alautun = 20 Kinchiltun = 23,040,000,000 Days = 63 million years
Question: If the Mayans predicted that the world will end on December 21, 2012, why bother creating a name for a time line that is unusable? If the sun crosses the milky way every 26,000 years, the world should end every 26,000 years right?
The Tzolkin
The Tzolkin is the very first calendar used by the Mayan, it has 260 days and is based on the numbers 20 ans 13. Imagine 2 interlocking gears wherein 1 gear counts 20 named days

And the other gear is numbered from 1 to 13.
Day 1 will be 1Imix, day 2 will be 2 Ik, day 3 3Ak’bal and so on…On day 14 the gear with numbers will start over at number 1 but the names will continue until day 20 before it starts over. Thus day 14 will be 14 Ix, day 15 will be 15 men and so on…
The calendar will again read 1Imix after the 260 day cycle. The Tzolkin calendar does not measure years that’s why the Mayans incorporated another calendar called Haab.
The Haab
The Haab is based on the Earth’s full cycle around the sun. It is composed of 18 uinals, totaling 360 named days, plus 5 nameless days that completes a cycle of 365 days (Each day has its own glyph and number). The 5 extra days, considered as 1 month, is called “uayeb”.
These days were considered to be so unlucky that anyone born on these days are doomed for eternity. The Mayans believed that the Gods leaves the Earth unprotected during these times. They performed rituals and human sacrifices with the hopes that the Gods will come back.
The Tzolkin and the Haab were combined (called Calendar Round) to give a time line of 52 years and is matched the same way as the Tzolkin calendar as far as the names and numbers are concerned.
The 18 uinals (20 days) were numbered from 0 - 19 and named as:
1. Pop 7. Yaxkin 13. Mac
2. Uo 8. Mol 14. Kankin
3. Zip 9. Chen 15. Muan
4. Zotz 10. Yax 16. Pa
5. Tzec 11. Zac 17. Kayab
6. Xul 12. Ceh 18. Cumku
Thus, the Haab Calendar changes its name for the dates after 20 days. Day 2 will be 2pop,
Day 3 will be 3pop, Day 4 will be 4pop and so on… until it reaches day 20 which will appear
as 0 Uo.
Did the Mayans predict extinction on December 21, 2012? Absolutely not! They just marked the
end of a cycle, and whenever a cycle ends it simply starts over. Just like our calendar that
starts over year after year. The Mayans were not prophets, they studied the stars and the
movement of the Earth in order to determine the best time to plant their crops. They made the
calendars in order to document time and monitor the weather.
Accepting this theory as a fact is synonymous to accepting their belief that the sun is God.
The I Ching
Or the book of changes, has long been used for personal fortune telling. Predictions are represented by 64 hexagrams, each hexagram has 6 horizontal lines wherein each line could be a Yin (a broken line) or a Yang (a solid line).
To know your fortune you will have to ask a question and toss 3 coins 6 times in order to complete the hexagram. If coins show mostly tails then you draw a solid line (Yang), if they are mostly heads then you draw a broken line (Yin).
Each of the 64 Hexagrams will have it’s own text. Incredibly the I ching is able to give appropriate answers to every question. Though, the texts are so vague that they can be interpreted in many ways and for somebody who is looking for an answer you will surely try to find a way to associate the texts with the events in your life.
It was not until Terrence Mckenna, who created a time line using the hexagrams called Time Wave Zero, that the I Ching became a fortune teller of doom.
Mckenna saw some sort of pattern on the I ching and was able to create a graph that mapped 4000 years of history. The highs and lows of the graph seemed to have predicted important events in history like the fall of the roman empire, the discovery of the new world and the wars of the 20th century.
The graph ends on December 21, 2012, just like the Mayan calendar.
The coincidences are astounding! You’ll find more related predictions made by ancient oracles like Merlin, Mother Shipton, Nostradamus, etc… But then again, all these writings are very vague and different people will interpret them differently.
If you want the world to end on December 21, 2012, these prophecies will tell you that. If you want the world to end in 2024 or whatever year, these prophecies will tell you that. In other words, they will be whatever you want them to be.
So those of you who are worried about 2012, stop wasting your time and emotions. Something is definitely going to happen on 2012 and that’s the Olympics, look forward to it : )

It is true that we have no evidencen proving that it is true but we dont have any proving its not either. I’ve looked and some things add up. By now everyones heard about the davinci codes. They predicted Kenedy’s assasinaition and the 9-11 fiascoe. Do you know who the free maisons are? They designed our moeny system. I’m sure you’ve seen that if you fold a 10 dollar bill the right way it looks like the twin towers burning down. What comes between 9 and 11? The answer is 10, the number of the bill its printed on. Is it just a cooincodence? Thats not for me to say. Aztecs designed a whole calendar and they had that right on the moeney. Why would they be wrong about this? I don’t know but maybe you should take some more time to think about this.

Jan 14, 2009, 4:10 amWell, truth is, most people who tell you that the world will end in 2012 because the Mayan calander ends on that year are people whom the only thing they can tell you about the Mayans is that they made a calander that predicts the worlds end. The Calander on my wall ends every 12 months but the world doesn’t end every 365 days. When you look at things logically the calander could not have been infinit it would have to eventually end. People who really study Mayans believe that it ends on 2012 because it’s a year of great happenings, lots of people are just too apocolyptic to know that great happenings aren’t neccessarily bad. Maybe it’ll be the year the aliens return to Earth to teach us or regain the long lost relationship.
Maybe it’ll be the date Alien life will live as one with humans, it’s just a theory, but it’s mainly pointing out that great happenings aren’t always cataclysmic, life on Earth doesn’t have to end for new life to come, it happens every day. People only see the worlds end on December 12, 2012 because that’s what they look for. Like I said most people are too Apocolyptic.

People always try to say these kinda things will come to pass such as Y2K . Believe what you want, but think about this….If people really believe this, then why are they still working their jobs 9-5 everyday. I mean, if i knew i had a couple years left to live, i think i would go travel the world or do something great and dramatic with my life. Ask some one that believes this stuff to sign over all their money to you the day before this is to go down. If everyone is dead then what would they care? We are ALL going to die some day. Death is an inevitable part of life. One way or another, it is going to happen. We all need to accept that death may be in any way, shape or form.
There is no point working ourselves up about ‘2012′. If it happens, it happens. All it means is that millions of people will be out of the misery of poverty, sickness and suffering.
And if you want my honest opinion, I don’t believe it will happen. How many countless times have we been told this would take place?
And if the polar shift happens every 28,000 years, why is it that we still have relics that have exceeded that time limit?
